7 Reasons to Read Black water Lilies by Michel Bussi

Welcome to A Lotus Girl blog’s “Books & Novels” section! Today, we are reviewing another thriller by Michel Bussi, Black Water Lilies. We previously reviewed Bussi’s After the Crash, which you can read here.

After thoroughly enjoying After the Crash, I decided to dive into another book by Bussi. My expectations were exceeded as the story gripped my mind, twisting and exhausting it, leaving me relentlessly trying to solve the mystery. And I’ll admit, I was in tears by the end!So, here are 7 reasons why you should read this novel!

About the Novel:

The story is set in the French village of Giverny, where impressionist painter Claude Monet spent his final years painting water lilies. The narrative follows three characters: Stephanie Duran, a young 25-year-old teacher admired by all the village’s young men; Fanette, an 11-year-old girl with a talent for painting; and an eccentric old woman who narrates the story. Despite their differences, all three share a desire to leave Giverny, and an opportunity arises with the mysterious murder near the village river that leads to a hunt for the killer.

7 Reasons to Read Black Water Lilies:

1. The Gripping Opening: Here’s a taste:”Three women lived in a village. The first was wicked, the second a liar, the third selfish. Their ages varied drastically. The first was over eighty and widowed. Or almost. The second was thirty-six and had never cheated on her husband. Until now. The third was soon to be eleven, and every boy in school wished she’d be their sweetheart. You see, they were different, yet shared a common dream: to leave Giverny…”.

2. Engaging Characters: Each character has secrets revealed at just the right moment.

3. Giverny’s Enchanting Setting: The picturesque village makes you feel present in the scenes.

4. Rich Artistic Background: Insights into impressionist art and Claude Monet’s legacy add depth to the mystery.

5. Simple yet Expressive Language: The novel flows easily, filled with suspense yet understandable and captivating.

6. Intriguing Plot: The storyline pulls you in, making you hunt for clues alongside the characters. Just as you make up your mind about the killer, new twists emerge.

7. Unforgettable Ending: The unexpected conclusion left me stunned, unable to return to reality for a while!

In conclusion, Black Water Lilies is one of the best novels I’ve read! Based on all the above, I rate it 5 stars and highly recommend it to fans of thrillers and mysteries. Even those typically uninterested in this genre may find themselves captivated!
